The United States Sumo Federation was founded in 1996 by Yoshisada Yonezuka, John Jacques, and Emmanuel Yarbrough. In its 30+ year history, the USSF has helped produce world medalists, spectacular tournaments, and a growing community of wrestlers dedicated the practice and growth of sumo in the United States.

NEWSLETTERS
Over the course of the USSF’s history, a number of volunteers have published newsletters covering the events of sumo in America and around the world. From 1999 to 2009, Harry Dudrow published Sumo Shimpo. In the 2010s, Tom Zabel published American Sumo, and Jake Poirier Revived American Sumo from 2022-2024
